Welcome to West Jay Middle School's Technology Class!
Hello and welcome to West Jay Middle Schools Technology Class website!
My name is Kyle Love, I am the middle school technology teacher for both East and West Jay Middle Schools. I am a graduate of Purdue University and have spent many years in the robotics field. My passion is for teaching the youth of Jay County about robotics and automation and how it affects our day to day lives. As a central Indiana native, I am aware of how important the preparation of our students for 21st century employment is.
Industry is now moving towards a very technical and robotics base type of manufacturing and production of goods. Students will be able to identify and describe different types of robotics technologies and understand how they are working. Students also will be able to have a base concept of how programming works and how the robots "think through" their programs. For the young people of Jay County to be competitive in the 21st century, they will need to be ahead of the curve on the job market and the types of jobs that are in high demand; I am confident that this class will prepare the students to be productive, educated workers in the future. The scope of this class covers anything from the basics of mechanical fabrication to mechanical design to some advanced programming topics. Students of all academic abilities should be able to find something that they enjoy about this class.
In Tech Class, we learn about robotics and automation. The students will be exposed to a heavily hands-on curriculum that will let them explore mechanical, electrical and programming sub-sections. We also do a lot of work in groups so that students can develop exceptional people skills.
The sixth graders will focus primarily on design and why things are the way they are. They will be using Lego Mindstorm kits to discover how things work and how to program them.
The seventh graders will focus on metal construction and doing some programming of sensors. They will be using the VEX Robotics System to do such activities.
The eighth graders will focus on advanced design. They will use the VEX Robotics System to design custom robots that will either compete in a drag race or a "robot pull". Students will explore how the design process works and how it is applied to objects around them.
If you ever have any questions for me about your students grade or any general questions feel free to contact me.
